3 Hours Before Flight Time
Immediate High Elevation: Begins at over 3,400 meters, offering immediate immersion into alpine moorlands and dramatic volcanic geology.
Expansive Caldera Trekking: Spend the first two days traversing the ancient Shira Plateau, one of the highest caldera plains on Earth.
Climb High, Sleep Low Profile: Day 3 ascends to Lava Tower (4,600 m) before dropping back down to Barranco Camp (3,900 m) to maximize oxygen adaptation.
Full Mountain Service: High-altitude tents pitched ahead of your arrival daily, accompanied by hot wash water and daily chef-prepared meals.
Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up from your hotel for a drive to Londorossi Gate for registration formalities. Afterwards, continue driving up the steep mountain track to the Morum Barrier (3,435 m).
Stepping out into the high-altitude moorland, begin a gentle hike across the heather-covered plains of the western Shira Plateau. Arrive at Shira 1 Camp by late afternoon, where your mountain crew will have tents set up ready for dinner under the stars.
Today is dedicated to exploring the geological wonders of the Shira Plateau. Hike eastward toward Morum Crater, an ancient collapsed caldera, taking in grand vistas of Kibo Peak and the western glaciers.
The path transitions from moorland scrub to high alpine rock landscapes. Arrive at Shira 2 Camp by early afternoon, positioned high on the plateau with sweeping views over Mount Meru.
A crucial day for body acclimatization. Ascend into the stark alpine desert toward the imposing volcanic formation of Lava Tower (4,600 m). Stop near the tower for a hot lunch to allow your body time to adjust to the higher altitude.
Following lunch, descend 700 meters into the Great Barranco Valley to Barranco Camp. This “climb high, sleep low” strategy triggers red blood cell production, boosting your chances on summit night.
Start the day by tackling the famous Barranco Wall. While it appears formidable, no technical gear is needed just a hands-on scramble guided every step of the way by your mountain team.
At the top of the wall, enjoy panoramic glacier views before descending into the alpine gullies of the Karanga Valley. Arrive at Karanga Camp in time for lunch and an afternoon of rest.
Leave Karanga Camp and ascend a steady, wind-swept trail through the alpine desert to reach the Mweka junction, continuing up to Barafu Camp (4,635 m).
Arrive at Base Camp by early afternoon. After lunch and gear checks (headlamps, warm layers, insulated water bottles), eat an early dinner and go to bed around 7:00 PM for rest before the midnight summit attempt.
Summit Night: Wake up around 11:30 PM for warm tea and light snacks. Begin the steep, slow-paced climb (pole pole) up volcanic scree toward Stella Point (5,756 m) on the crater rim.
Reach Stella Point at sunrise, then continue along the snow-covered crater rim for another hour to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,341 ft) the Roof of Africa! Celebrate, capture photo memories, and enjoy the views.
Afterward, descend back to Barafu Camp for lunch and a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for your final night.
Enjoy breakfast followed by the traditional tipping ceremony and farewell songs performed by your mountain crew. Descend through lush rainforest trails down to Mweka Gate.
At the gate, collect your official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificates (Gold for Uhuru Peak, Green for Stella Point). Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a shower and celebration.
