Rest, enjoy dinner, and take in the sunset views over the surrounding landscape.
Leave Kikelelwa Camp and ascend steeply up grassy slopes into the stark, volcanic landscape of the alpine desert zone.
Arrive by early afternoon at Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,315 m), situated beside a natural alpine lake beneath Mawenzi Peak. Use the afternoon for an acclimatization walk up the surrounding ridge before returning to camp for dinner.
Cross the lunar-like landscape of the “Saddle” the broad, dry desert plain connecting Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak.

Afterward, descend to Kibo Hut for lunch and a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut (3,720 m) for your final night on the mountain.
