Itinerary

Day 1Moshi/Arusha to Rongai Gate to Simba Camp

Depart in the morning from your hotel for a scenic 3–4 hour drive around the eastern base of Mount Kilimanjaro toward the Kenyan border to reach Rongai Gate (Nalituru).

After park registration and meeting your crew, begin trekking through pine forests and lush vegetation. The gradient is gentle and steady. Arrive at Simba Camp (2,625 m) by late afternoon on the edge of the moorland zone with views across the Kenyan plains

Day 2Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp

Begin the morning with a steady incline out of the forest zone into open moorland terrain. As you climb, enjoy clear views of Kibo Peak and the eastern ice fields ahead.

Reach Second Cave Camp (3,450 m) in time for a hot lunch. The afternoon is kept short and relaxing to help your body adapt naturally to higher elevations.

Day 3Second Cave Camp to Kikelelwa Camp

Today’s trail heads southeast toward the jagged spires of Mawenzi Peak. Traverse through heather and lobelia plants across open moorland ridges.Arrive at Kikelelwa Camp (3,600 m), sheltered in a valley below Mawenzi Peak. Rest, enjoy dinner, and take in the sunset views over the surrounding landscape.

Day 4Kikelelwa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

Leave Kikelelwa Camp and ascend steeply up grassy slopes into the stark, volcanic landscape of the alpine desert zone.

Arrive by early afternoon at Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4,315 m), situated beside a natural alpine lake beneath Mawenzi Peak. Use the afternoon for an acclimatization walk up the surrounding ridge before returning to camp for dinner.

Day 5Mawenzi Tarn Camp to Kibo Hut (Base Camp)

Cross the lunar-like landscape of the “Saddle” the broad, dry desert plain connecting Mawenzi Peak and Kibo Peak.

Arrive at Kibo Hut (4,700 m) by early afternoon. Eat an early hot dinner, prepare summit gear (headlamps, thermals, insulated water bottles), and get to sleep early around 7:00 PM for the midnight summit push.

Day 6Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (Summit) down to Horombo Hut

Summit Night: Wake up around 11:30 PM for tea and light snacks. Begin the steep, slow ascent up volcanic scree toward Gilman’s Point (5,685 m) on the crater rim.

Reach Gilman’s Point at sunrise, then trek along the snow-covered crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m/ 19,341 ft) the Roof of Africa! Celebrate, capture photo memories, and enjoy the summit vistas.

Afterward, descend to Kibo Hut for lunch and a short rest, then continue down to Horombo Hut (3,720 m) for your final night on the mountain.

Day 7Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Moshi/Arusha

Following breakfast and the traditional celebratory songs with your mountain crew, complete a long descent through heather and rainforest zones down to Marangu Gate.

Collect your official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificates (Gold for Uhuru Peak, Green for Gilman’s Point) and transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a shower and celebration.
