3 Hours Before Flight Time
Scenic West-to-East Traverse: Begin in untouched rainforests on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro before trekking across the expansive Shira Plateau.
Exceptional Acclimatization Profile: Features a dedicated excursion to Lava Tower ($4,630 m) on Day 4 to maximize oxygen adaptation before the summit push.
Full Mountain Hospitality: Private camping setup with warm washing water and freshly prepared chef-cooked meals every day.
The Midnight Summit Push: A memorable nighttime ascent under starry skies to watch the sunrise from Uhuru Peak (5,895 m).
Depart early morning from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a scenic drive to Lemosho Gate on the western side of Mount Kilimanjaro. After completing park entry permits and meeting your professional mountain crew, begin trekking through the tranquil, lush rainforest.
Keep an eye out for blue monkeys and Colobus monkeys swinging in the canopy. Arrive at Big Tree Camp (Mti Mkubwa) by late afternoon, where your tents are pitched and hot dinner is prepared.
As you ascend out of the rainforest, the forest canopy gives way to tall heather plants and open moorlands. Today’s path climbs steadily across a series of rolling ridges to enter the vast Shira Caldera.
After crossing the rim, descend gently to Shira 1 Camp, situated on the edge of the plateau with dramatic views of Kibo Peak across the plain.
Enjoy a full day exploring the Shira Plateau. Hike eastward across the high-altitude moorland plateau toward Shira 2 Camp (or take an optional trek to Moir Camp, nestled at the base of the Lent Hills).
This day serves as a crucial gentle acclimation step, giving your body time to adapt to higher elevations while taking in views of Mount Meru in the western horizon.
Today is an essential “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization day. Ascend eastward into the barren alpine desert toward the volcanic rock tower known as Lava Tower (4,600 m). Hot lunch is served near the tower to allow your body to adapt to the thin air.
After lunch, descend 640 meters into the Great Barranco Valley to Barranco Camp. Sleeping at a lower elevation after reaching 4,600 m significantly improves your summit readiness.
Begin your morning with an exhilarating scramble up the famous Barranco Wall. While visually imposing, no technical climbing equipment is required just a hands-on scramble led step by step by your mountain guides.
At the top of the wall, enjoy views of Heim Glacier before trekking through a series of gullies into the Karanga Valley. Arrive at Karanga Camp in time for lunch and an afternoon of rest.
Leave Karanga Camp and ascend a steady trail through the dry alpine desert to reach the junction connecting with the Mweka descent route. Continue up to Barafu High Camp (4,640 m).
Upon arrival at base camp, your crew will set up camp and serve an early hot dinner. Perform final gear checks (headlamps, warm layers, insulated water bottles) and go to sleep around 7:00 PM in preparation for the midnight summit push.
Summit Night: Wake up at 11:30 PM for warm tea and snacks. Begin the steep ascent up volcanic scree toward Stella Point (5,756 m) on the crater rim under starry skies.
Reach Stella Point at sunrise, then trek another hour along the snow-draped crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895 m / 19,341 ft) the Roof of Africa! Celebrate, take photos at the summit board, and take in the glacier views.
Afterward, descend to Barafu Camp for a hot lunch and brief rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp (3,100 m) for your final night on the mountain.
Enjoy a celebratory breakfast followed by the traditional tipping ceremony and songs with your mountain crew. Descend through lush rainforest trails to Mweka Gate.
At the gate, receive your official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificates (Gold for Uhuru Peak, Green for Stella Point). Transfer back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for a long-awaited hot shower and celebration.
